Rangitoto Island
Rangitoto is a volcanic Island in the Hauraki Gulf of New Zealand.
It is Auckland's predominant land mark. I have spent many hours sailing these waters. It is where an America's cup was won, and subsequently lost. We were there watching the drama unfold!

Teflon Jack
This work was created while we were at a mosaics course under the tutalage of renowned New Zealand mosaic artist Con Kiernan. Believe it or not, this took us a week to complete! Teflon Jack refers to a previous New Zealand prime minister.

Table Top
I had this broken Delft Blue tile and I just had to do something with it. So I decided to make this table top and applied a dutch theme
by creating bands with the Dutch national colours. It can be hung on the wall as well.

How Safe
In't holle van Zijn hand
O hoe veilig zijn God's kind'ren

In the palm of His hand
Oh how safe are God's children
In the palm of His hand
We ordered this tile from the Netherlands and it arrived broken. We contacted the seller and he kindly sent us another one, which also arrived broken. No other option but to turn it into a mosaic

Manukau Heads
This is a view of the Manukau Heads seen from Weymouth.
We used to live nearby and we spent many happy hours
exploring the foreshore here. This is my largest work to date. I have trouble lifting it...

The text at the top of this work could be translated as: "Nobody gets a blueprint for life". Or, in the words of Forrest Gump: "Life is like a box of chocolates - You never know what you're going to get".

Parasol Stand
This is an umbrella stand that happened, sort of. It was rather flimsy, so I threw a car tyre around it. Then I built it up with concrete to form a dome. Then I applied mosaic tiles in a Koru pattern. This was my very first effort at mosaics. Yes, I broke the tiles with a hammer!

Our Grandson Jack
Here is our grandson Jack Singleton hard at work. He took an interest in mosaics and as a result we spent an Easter weekend making this together. Let me assure you Jack made all the design decisions. Here he is seen cleaning up after the grouting.

Coffee Table
I was given this bunch of antique tiles. Then I found this rattan frame at the recycling centre. I decided to make a coffee table.
These tiles probably came from the Netherlands but they reminded me of some floors we saw in Mexico.

Art work installed
Above are the images of a public commission I worked on in collaboration with Con Kiernan of Waikino and Rowena Rooney of Te Atatu.
The project consistied of 3 units of 4 panels measuring 800 x 160 mm each. They have been installed on a post in the playground of St Thomas School Kohimarama.
The first unit of 4 panels was supplied by Rowena and has a Pacifica theme.
The second unit of 4 panels was supplied by me, although Con supplied the lettering. This unit has a new Zealand/Australia theme.
The final unit of 4 panels was supplied by Con, although some elements such as the 2 native birds and the Auckland City skyline were supplied by me. Con has kindly moved the Beehive from Wellington to Auckland...
